What is a Web Feed?

In a nutshell, web feeds let you collect content you want to read without having to visit each website individually.

Web feeds are syndicated headlines (and sometimes full text and other content) to which you can subscribe. Some web browsers, such as Mozilla's Firefox and Apple's Safari, allow you to bookmark web feeds.

There are also standalone news aggregator programs (sometimes called news readers) that check web feeds and fetch new headlines for you. Some of these standalone programs are the kind you install on your computer:

... and others are web applications that you access like you would a website:

Some news aggregators will automatically react when you click on links to web feeds from within your browser. Others require that you cut-and-paste the URL of the web feed into a "Subscribe" option of the aggregator. If you see a screen full of code when you click on a web feed link, look to your browser's address bar for the URL to give your aggregator.

Our web feeds use the RSS format.
