Ezra Young, a nationally recognized civil rights attorney, to discuss trans rights in the era of Trump (11/12)

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - On November 12 at 5:30pm in Rockefeller Hall. Room 200, Ezra Young will deliver his lecture “Because of Sex: Evolutions of Gender-Based Legal Protection in US Law,” discussing trans rights in the era of Trump.

Ezra's work centers on trans rights. Using the Civil Rights Act of 1964’s Title VII, the federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in employment, Young argues that the problem of under-protection is not the result of a failure to name discrete statuses in statutory schemes but rather a failure of the courts and society at large to recognize vulnerable groups are protected by broad remedial civil rights laws—a problem not solved by simply adding new statuses to statutes.
