POUGHKEEPSIE, NY—The New York Opera Studio will present a selection of scenes from operas during an afternoon performance on Sunday, July 5. This program is open to the public without charge and will begin at 2pm in the Martel Recital Hall of the Skinner Hall of Music on the Vassar College campus. No reservations are necessary.
The performance, by singers drawn from throughout the world, will feature performances of 14 scenes from operas representing distinct range of styles, languages, composers, and characters.
For six summers, beginning in 2004, Vassar College has been the home of New York Opera Studio’s Summer Program for Singers and Pianists – a 10-day intensive workshop that emphasizes the skills of process and the performance of opera.
Each year, 38 singers of all ages from all over the world come to work with the expert, renowned faculty including: Nico Castel, who for 40 years is the diction and style coach of the Metropolitan Opera and The Juilliard School of Music; Carol Castel, stage director; Violetta Zabbi, pianist and director of the piano department of the Long Island Conservatory of Music; Kristi Spessard Azaroff, dancer and choreographer; Carol Kirkpatrick, singer and career coach, author of Aria Ready - the Business of Singing; and Barbara Conrad, singer and resident artist.
The New York Opera Studio is designed for the singer who is already studying vocal technique and committed to a professional career, the New York Opera Studio helps young artists bridge the gap between conventional voice education and the professional operatic stage. It is set up as an “open conservatory,” offering classes and workshops taught by some of the finest names in opera and theater.
