DUSO's annual four-county math championship, March 11, 2009.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY—The annual DUSO (Dutchess/Ulster/Sullivan/Orange) Math League will hold its championship meet at Vassar College on Wednesday, March 11 (snow date, Thursday, March 12). Awards will be presented to the winners at 11:30am in Rockefeller Hall, room 300. The public is welcome to attend the awards ceremony, usually held between 11:30 -12:00pm, however the actual meet (9-11am) is closed to outside viewers.

DUSO includes about 40 schools from the four counties, with individual teams competing against each other in local meets. This year there will be 100 students that form 19 competing teams from 13 different high schools, including Spackenkill, Arlington, Roy C. Ketcham, John Jay, Kingston, Washington, Monroe-Woodbury, Wallkill, Saugerties, Lourdes, Roosevelt, Cornwall, and Chapel Field. This is the fifth year that the DUSO championship meet will be held at Vassar.

Anchala Sobrin, the president of the DUSO Math League and a math teacher at John Jay High School, noted that there are two ways for teams to become eligible for the sectional match. One is to win their respective section: one of six in Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, and Orange counties. The second is by scoring higher than the winning team in another section.

The 51 highest scoring students in the league will represent the DUSO Math League at the New York State Math League championship meet on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at John Jay High School.
