POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre (VRDT) will present its “Final Showings,” of new and reconstructed works in progress by faculty, student, and guest choreographers, in Kenyon Hall’s Frances Daly Fergusson Dance Theater on November 20, 21, and 22, at 8:00 pm. Featured guest choreographers include New York City Ballet’s Tom Gold; award-winning dance and theater choreographer, Peter Pucci (Peter Pucci Plus Dancers); new and emerging choreographer Takehiro Ueyama (TAKE Dance Company); and master dance maker Paul Taylor.

The showings this year will be divided over three evenings. Special repertoire presented by this year’s guests, includes Mr. Taylor’s Aureole, one of his signature works and the beloved dance of many of the programs performed by his company during the past four and a half decades. Other guest works include new ballets by Gold and Pucci. The performances will feature lighting design by David Ferri.
Faculty choreographer, Kathy Wildberger, and guest choreographer, Ueyama, present two very different modern dance works to Steve Reich scores, joining the greater Vassar community honoring this celebrated composer.
Closing the program with a folk dance feel, the company piece by current faculty member and 13-year veteran of New York City Ballet, Miriam Mahdaviani, uses Klezmer music and all 33 VRDT company members.
Student choreographers represented in the programs will include: Cameron Lussier, Marion Spencer, Rebecca Ain, Leah Wilks, Nick DiCarlo, Robin Cherof, Marina Hitosugi-Levesque, Max Hershenow, Joey Army, Mallory Easton and Caitlyn Lamdin.
“This is an opportunity to see our dancers in the final phases of preparation for our spring gala at the Bardavon,” explained Maureen Mansfield Kaddar, who directs VRDT and teaches modern dance at Vassar. Kaddar was a member of the Paul Taylor Dance Company from 1997 to 2002. Kaddar encouraged audiences to attend Final Showings in, “our beautiful Frances Daly Fergusson Dance Theater in Kenyon Hall, where the theatre’s members will put their hearts and souls into the performances.”
Final Showings will preview the annual weekend of gala concerts the company will present this spring at Poughkeepsie’s historic Bardavon Opera House (2/28–3/1/09).
