Find fresh produce and food every Thursday from November through May as the Arlington Farmers’ Market moves to an indoor location at Vassar College.POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Find farm fresh produce and great food from November through May as the Arlington Farmers’ Market moves to an indoor location in Vassar College’s North Atrium of the College Center, located in historic Main Building every Thursday from 12noon to 5:00pm. (Please note that the market will be on hiatus from December 27, 2012 - January 17, 2013 during the college’s Winter Break. It will reopen on January 24, 2013.)
“Folks don’t have to give up fresh quality food just because it’s getting colder in the Hudson Valley,” noted Ken Oldehoff, director of marketing and sustainability for Vassar’s Campus Dining. “Our area is blessed with wonderful farmland as well as creative people who make sure that we can get a variety of local foods throughout the year. If you shop at a winter farmers market you’re supporting local growers and businesses and you’re eating well. I can’t think of a better tastier way to support your community.”
The market vendors will include: Meredith's Bread, Earth to Table, Phillie's Bridge Farm Project, Dashing Star Farm, Perry's Pickles, Fresh from Vermont, Wilklow Orchards, Lynn Haven Farm, E.B's Golden Harvest, and Best Creations.
In addition, Winter Sun Farm will be joining the market in December and will offer a 5-month Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) winter share for the Poughkeepsie community as well as a special 4-month share for Vassar students. Winter Sun buys vegetables and berries from Hudson Valley farms all summer and fall and freezes them at the peak of freshness at its facility in Kingston, NY. Shares are then distributed to CSA members from December through April (January is excluded for Vassar students). Each monthly share contains seven items. The first share in December is projected to include sweet corn, butternut squash puree, green beans, peppers, tomato, blueberries, and pea shoots. For more information about the CSA, contact Winter Sun at www.wintersunfarms.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
For more information, or if you are interested in becoming a vendor contact Alistair Hall: email@example.com. The indoor market is a collaborative project with Vassar’s College Committee on Sustainability and the Arlington Business Improvement District.
