Local colleges to host free financial aid workshop at Poughkeepsie High School February 6, 2010.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- Financial aid professionals from Vassar, Marist, and Dutchess Community colleges will host a no-cost workshop for the public about completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), on Saturday, February 6 from 1:00-4:00pm at Poughkeepsie High School, 70 Forbus Street. The FAFSA form is required for any student seeking federal and state financial aid, including grants and loans at all U.S. colleges. Online registration for the proram is encouraged but not required through the website, where a local map can also be found.
Registered participants should take the following steps to prepare:
-- Sign up online for a FAFSA "PIN" identification number, and bring it along (
-- Complete online the "FAFSA on the Web" worksheet, and bring a printout of the completed from (
-- Bring your 2009 W-2 tax form(s).
-- Bring your entire completed 2009 tax return, or if your 2009 return isn't completed bring an entire 2008 return.
The workshop is part of College Goal Sunday, a statewide volunteer program that provides free information and assistance for college-bound students and their families. College Goal Sunday is a service project of the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association and the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, the state's financial aid agency. Support includes a grant from the Lumina Foundation,  and funds from the federal College Access Challenge Grant.
