Join SAVP and Africana Studies in welcoming Aishah Simmons to speak about antiviolence work as racial justice work, racial justice work as antiviolence work, and the pressing needs in our communities when we center survivors with multiple marginalized identities. Aishah is an award-winning Black feminist lesbian independent documentary filmmaker, published writer, international lecturer, professor, and activist, whose work, for over two decades, examines the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and sexual violence. She wrote, directed, and produced the 2006 film "NO! The Rape Documentary", the 2006-released, award-winning, internationally acclaimed film that explores sexual violence in African-American communities. In 2019, Aishah edited and published the anthology Love WITH Accountability: Digging Up the Roots of Child Sexual Abuse.
