The art of translation: An experiential workshop for activists, writers, yogis, and hopeful travelers
Workshop description:
This workshop is for all people interested in translation as an act of re-creation that promises to grow the imagination. We will share lessons we have learned (in China, Greece, Thailand, the US) about translating and experiences in co-editing Making Mirrors: Righting/Writing by and for Refugees. Special attention will be given to translating poetry from Arabic to English and examining differences in the translations of the Yoga Sutras from Sanskrit to English (for the yogis in the audience). We will talk about translation not only as a practice done alone at the desk but also in the world—in dance, in social justice training, in refugee camps, on the run. There will be time for experiential work on translation. No experience necessary. All welcome.
This workshop is co-led by Mootacem Mhiri and Becky Thompson
