Out of the Classroom and Into the World: Creative Ways to Find and Raise Your Professional Voice

Katherine Schulten, NYT Learning Network
What are you proud of in your teaching practice? What stories do you have to tell? What do you struggle with? What do you wish people knew about schools -- or teenagers, or teaching, or learning? In this interactive keynote, we will talk why the world needs your unique teacher voice, no matter what you may have to say, and we'll look at the many interesting forms "voice" can take in 2018. Then, via a series of exercises, you will identify the ideas, issues, questions and stories that matter to you most, and consider ways to share them. The keynote will be followed by a workshop where you will work in small groups to take the themes you identified and start a piece of professional writing before you leave the conference.
