"Endangered Humanities and Endangered Planet":

A report on the near-extinction of amphibians, routed through Thoreau's sound portrait of the bull frog in Walden, and his sound portrait of Native Americans in The Maine Woods, whose fate taught him that history is made up of many points of no return, many losses that are not compensated for. The contemporary crisis of the humanities is explored through that lens.
