Medievalism Today: Chivalry and Religion in A Song of Ice and Fire

A Song of Ice and Fire is a series of epic fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin. The first book in the series is A game of Thrones. The series is a basis of an immensely popular TV series, Game of Thrones, now in its sixth season. (The premier of season 5 in 2015 had 8 million viewers.) Professor Volk-Birke, and expert on medieval as well as modern English literature, will discuss the medieval traditions on which the series draws and explain the underlying reasons for its popularity.
