Faculty conversation led by Laura Biagi, Ph.D. "Healing Between Art and Science: A Workshop of Southern Italian Tarantella." Tarantella is best known as a courting dance, but its origins can be traced back to a healing ritual practice. In this archaic ritual both the poison of the spider's bite, and the quality of healing music and dance are understood in terms of vibration. To heal, women and men of all ages call musician healers to play music that would match the vibration of the poison now in their blood. Faculty members from different departments are invited to come together to discuss the relationship between art, science, and healing, and multimodal and interdisciplinary methods of teaching.
