The Urban Studies Program presents a panel: "Music Criticism Today." Three music critics discuss the art of writing reviews, how to get started in music journalism, the state of the music industry, and other topics related to their work. Rob Sheffield is the author of "Love Is A Mix Tape," which has been published in Swedish, Italian, French, German, Chinese, Russian, and other languages. Jon Caramanica writes regularly about pop music for the New York Times and about television for the Los Angeles Times. The former Music Editor of Vibe magazine, he has contributed to Rolling Stone, GQ, Spin, the Village Voice, the Fader and Vice. Hua Hsu, assistant professor of English at Vassar College, writes about culture and ideas for Slate, the New York Times, and the Atlantic Monthly. He has contributed to Vibe, the Village Voice, the Believer, the Los Angeles Times, and the New-York Ghost, among other outlets.

WVKR 91.3 FM, the radio station of Vassar College, invites you to enjoy a night of live music and show your support for independent radio. Headlining the show will be Brooklyn-based band, Chairlift (http://chairliftmusic.com/), with opening acts The King Left, Bumblebeez, BM Linx, The Pragmatic and additional DJ sets by WVKR DJs featured throughout the night. Chairlift just released its first album with universal critical acclaim, and their song "Bruises" is featured in a recent iPod nano commercial.
