The African American Alumnae/i of Vassar College (AAAVC) will host its 19th annual Kente Cloth Ceremony. The featured alumnae/i speaker at the ceremony will be Dr. Claudia Thomas '71, America's first black female orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Thomas's autobiography, God Spare Life, chronicles her journeys and struggles along the way to and beyond this distinguished achievement (which included surviving a life-threatening illness, a natural disaster, and life as an activist and student at Vassar in the late 1960s, among many other things). Dr. Thomas is the recipient of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOD) 2008 Diversity Award. Everyone is welcome to attend.
