Students' Building, Second Floor
The 7th Annual Steven Hirsch '71 and Susan Hirsch Disability Awareness Lecture. Robert Brooks, "The Power of Mindsets: Nurturing Resiliency in Children and Young Adults with Learning Disabilities at Home and in School." During this lecture, Dr. Robert Brooks introduces parents, students, and educators to the importance of changing negative scripts so often used with children and young students who struggle with learning disabilities. He insists that when parents and teachers follow a strength-based approach and find a child's "island of competence," the result is life transforming. Dr. Brooks is one of today's leading speakers on the themes of resilience, self-esteem, motivation, and family relationships. Book signing to follow lecture.
