Please join us for the April Artful Dodger series beginning on Wednesday, April 2nd at 12:00 in the Main Galleries of the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center with a discussion by Lucy Johnson, Professor of Anthropology, entitled, ?These Beautifully Rendered Tools Can't Only Be Allegorical!"As a student of technology, Lucy chose to discuss, Atlas Maintaining the Balance of the World by Felice Boscarati due to its careful depictions of tools in the painting. This is the first of a series of 4 allegorical paintings by Felice Boscarati (1721-1807); Vassar also has the 4th, as well as engravings of the whole series by Cristoforo dall'Acqua.

Focus on Prisons Week at Vassar. March 31-April 5. Prison Art exhibit in the Aula, viewing hours in the afternoons and evenings. On Saturday, April 5, from 1pm-5pm, the public is invited to join the Green Haven/Vassar Reunion in workshops on developing a "College in Prison Program at Vassar" and "Women in Prison." The Green Haven/Vassar Reunion is an annual event that brings together formerly incarcerated men from Green Haven and Otisville prisons, formerly incarcerated women, Vassar alums who worked with them, community activists on prison issues, and current students, faculty, and administrators in a day long focus on prison issues.

A presentation by two of St. Petersburg's most prominent contemporary artists: Ivan Govorkov, professor, Russian Academy of Fine Arts (St. Petersburg), and Elena Gubanova, recipient of international awards. Govorkov and Gubanova, who are a married couple, will speak of their work and of the challenges of St. Petersburg's dynamic art scene.
